My Friday the 13th
Things have been quite busy out here recently. I am involved in a very big project to get the local Afghan Army connected to the internet for the first time ever. Networking is not normally part of my Air Force career field so I’m learning a ton of new stuff to further geek me out. I love it! I also will be assisting in a class that will teach the ANA basic computer skills. Since Afghanistan is not exactly a high-tech country most have never even touched a computer. The first class begins tomorrow. I expect it to be quite a challenge since all of the programs are in English and none of our students speak English. We do have an excellent translator though. It will require a lot of patience but it’s definitely an exciting project that I am proud to be a part of.
Today is Friday and my first day off in weeks. I slept until 9:30 and I’ve been lounging in my room all day watching Desperate Housewives Season 2. It is also ice cream night which has made this one of the most perfect days since I’ve been in country (well, as perfect as it can get anyway).
Sometime next month I should be going on R&R to Qatar. I have a few friends and coworkers who are deployed there (HA- note: this is where they send us for R&R) so it should be a lot of fun, at least to see some familiar faces and to get the hell out of here for a few days.
Well, episode 22 is waiting.
Thank you to everyone who has sent me care-packages and cards. You have no idea how much they mean to me. Mail call is one of the most looked-forward-to part of the day in any deployment location.
Love & miss you all.
