Baby its Cold Outside

The weather has been rather frosty out here in the Afghan mountains. As you can see from my previous post, we’ve got some snow on the ground. It’s very pretty in the mountains but down here things are quite muddy –ewww.
I’m still teaching my intro to computers in the mornings. The walk to class isn’t so bad because the ground is still frozen but the walk back is a squishy icky trek (the road is not paved) and you have to be careful not to slip and fall on your hiney.
In the afternoons I have been teaching our new Marines how to use a system called Blue Force Tracker. It’s basically a glorified GPS system mounted in our HUMMVs that tracks friendly aircraft and other vehicles equipped with the BFT. So, of course the class is outside in the vehicles…in the chilly air. I have been instructing about 3-4 classes an evening, each between 30-45 minutes –burrrrr. It’s cool stuff but I could do without the numb toes.
I have been placed in charge of setting up our new camp help desk. It’s caused many late nights over the past week but things are starting to flow nicely. The days are really starting to fly by even quicker now.
My roommates and I have decorated the room in attempt to get into the holiday spirit. We still have more decorations on the way. Hopefully the bigger tree will make it in time.

I cancelled my trip to Qatar this month. Everyone who has gone so far has been stuck in transit and ends up away for nearly 2 weeks. I didn’t want to risk spending Christmas day in Kuwait all by myself on Christmas day when I have friends here that I would rather spend the holidays with…plus we have so many projects going on that I just don’t want to abandon right now.
Well, I need to get to the gym and get some chow (it’s ice cream night).

Sorry to hear you had to cancel your trip. It would have been a nice break before the home stretch of your tour. Stay warm...
